Standards for Financial Educators in the UK
The National Financial Educators Council developed the Framework for Teaching Personal Finance, the first – and still the only – industry standard framework for financial education instructors of its kind. The Framework sets out clear benchmarks designed to help educators deliver more effective financial education and equip learners with practical, real-world money skills.
Developed in collaboration with the Danielson Group and aligned with InTASC, the Framework adapts Charlotte Danielson’s widely respected model of teaching practice for the field of financial literacy. Grounded in constructivist learning theory, it defines 22 evidence-based components outlining the knowledge, competencies, and performance expectations educators should demonstrate. It also provides a structured roadmap linking instructional practice to measurable learner outcomes and continuous professional development.
The work of Charlotte Danielson is widely regarded across education systems internationally, and her Framework for Teaching is supported by extensive evidence-based research and used by educators, school leaders, policymakers, and academic institutions. It sets out clear expectations for effective teaching practice and defines levels of professional performance associated with highly skilled educators.
Originally adopted across more than 20 US states, the Framework is one of the most widely used teaching evaluation and development models in the United States and continues to influence educator standards and professional practice globally, including discussions around improving financial education quality in UK and international contexts.
